Something to consider
Lev 23:27 Also on the tenth day of this seventh month there shall be a day of atonement: it shall be an holy convocation to you; and ye shall afflict your souls, and offer an offering made by fire unto YHWH.
“convocation” – It is a Shabbat (v:32) – We are to assemble
Clearly no fire is involved -or- 2 goats (Lev.16:5-22) in modern Atonement proceedings – 2 clear Torah commandment breaks / instruction secessions – (itself an enacted yet denied ‘CHANGE’!).
“ … afflictH6031 (H853) your souls:H5315 …” – Means Fasting?
(Given in the book ‘Back to the Melchizedek Future’) – You’ll need to look up the Definitions and Roots – understanding that;
It is understood that the verbiage before the ‘ :- ‘ sign is the definition. While the verbiage after the ‘ :- ‘ sign is what the translators have taken that word to mean.
Fast – from H6684 – צוּם – tsu^m – tsoom
A primitive root; to cover over (the mouth), that is, to fast: – X at all, fast.
Fasting – from H6685 – צום – tso^m – tsome
From H6684; a fast: – fast (-ing).
These Hebrew words – ‘tsum’ or ‘tsom’ do not occur in Torah; being the first 5 books (of Moses) – Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy. Do not occur in Lev.23:27 or Num.29:7.
Hence; ‘afflictH6031 (H853) your souls:H5315 ‘ seems more correctly to mean – to declare – enunciate that is to testify to ie confess ones short comings i.e. sin (by implication Lev.16:30).
The Day of Atonement is not mentioned before or in the Melchizedek Book of the Covenant (Ex.19:5-24:8 – Gal.3:15). The New Testament (the events of Melchizedek renewal) state that Yahshua is the atonement – 1Jn.1:3; 7, Rom.5:11, Col.3:15, Php.2:2, Jn.17:11; 20-23, etc. There is no mention in Torah that those before or Noah, Shem, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob/Israel or Jacob’s physical 12 sons (for whom the Tribes of Israel are named) ever had a ‘day of atonement’ and with that an injunction to fast.
Rom 4:16 Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all. –
Obviously ‘the faith of Abraham’ is not of Levitical Law – (Gal.3:10; 17-19, Heb.7:11)
Rom 5:10 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to Yah by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life. :11 And not only so, but we also joy in Yah through Yahshua Messiah, by whom we have now received the **atonement**.
Atonements were mentioned during the 40 days while Moses was on top of Mt. Sinai receiving the ‘added’ Law before the Israelites broke the Covenant; but eating was required (Aaron and Sons Ex.29:32-33 / compared to [Lev.7:5-6; 10:17]). A general Atonement was to be made once a year (nondescript of a 10th day of the 7th month – Ex.30:10); and a ransom for your souls was to be paid (Ex.30:12-16). But no mention of ‘fasting’ (or afflicting your soul) in a 7th month ‘Atonement’.
We will never fully know what the Melchizedek Atonement would have been or looked like; for the Israelites broke the Covenant in just a few days. Fasting (purportedly from ‘afflict your souls’ – Lev. 16:29-31; 23:27) ‘in the seventh month’ was not given till Leviticus; clearly after the Melchizedek Covenant break of Ex.32 and the subsequent Levitical Priesthood injunction & its imposed laws. (Ezk.20:25/Heb.9:10)
