On-the-Melchizedek-Priesthood

This is part of the discussion I had with Jono Vandor (of Now Dubious – Truth2U) and Jason Spiritualbabies on Melchizedek pursuant to

http://www.truth2u.org/2013/02/jono-jason-the-melchizedek-priesthood.html

Jono Vandor (said) – Indeed the Canaanite’s worship of El Elyon was corrupted, and it was this corruption that Melchizedek was likely priest of, hence Abram’s qualification, identifying the most high God that he (Abram) worships as YHVH, as opposed to Melchizedek’s concept of El Elyon. By the way, the text indicates that Melchizedek gave Abram a tenth of all, not the other way around.

Drdave Perry Shalom Jono

You are suggesting that the Melchizedek of Gen.14 was pagan or at least priest of this assertion of ‘corruption’ . The text shows otherwise –

Ge 14:18 And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and **he was the priest of the most high God**.
19 And he blessed him, and said, Blessed be **Abram of the most high God**, possessor of heaven and earth:
20 And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And he (Abram/Abraham not Melchizedek) gave him (Melchizedek) tithes of all.

We have already established that Gen.14:22 and others firmly identifies El ’Elyōn with Yahweh

YHWH states

Ho 4:6 ¶ My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that **thou shalt be no priest** to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.

If Yah is not the author of confusion and changes not; the Melchizedek of Gen.14 was NOT pagan or corrupt.

Your assertion that “Melchizedek gave Abram a tenth of all, not the other way around” is also erroneously incorrect

It was Abram/Abraham that Gen 14:16.. brought back all the goods.. -This is confirmed at

Heb 7:4 Now consider how great this man (Melchizedek :1) was, unto whom even the patriarch **Abraham gave** the tenth of the spoils.

Jono – you have reversed and questioned many of the ‘norms’ – do you still believe Yahshua to be the only begotten Son of YHWH – Mashiach – Saviour – Melchizedek – Covenant Mediator? And His New Testament/Covenant?
(This added – of which he never did answer directly or fully)

Jason SpiritualBabies 18. And Malchizedek the king of Salem brought out bread and wine, and he was a priest to the Most High God.
19. And he blessed him, and he said, “Blessed be Abram to the Most High God, Who possesses heaven and earth.
20. And blessed be the Most High God, Who has delivered your adversaries into your hand,” and he gave him a tithe from all.

This verse speak ABOUT MLCHZDK…

18. And Melchizedek the king of Salem brought out bread and wine, and HE was a priest to the Most High God.
19. And HE (MCZDK) blessed him (Abram), and HE (MCZDK) said, “Blessed be Abram to the Most High God, Who possesses heaven and earth.
20. And blessed be the Most High God, Who has delivered your (Abram) adversaries into your(Abram) hand,” and HE (MCZDK) gave him(Abram) a tithe from all.

the HE is always Melchizedek… the him is always Abram, in this set of verses.

Often, relying on a christian bible.. especially when the context is wholly hebrew.. will not deliver ‘definition’… but doctrine.

So your saying Paul / the New Testament was wrong?  I don’t think you realize that you have just demonstrated that Abraham got everything – the blessing AND the tithe.  Huh??? So what did Melchizedek get – Nothing?

Heb 7:4 Now consider how great this man was, unto whom even the patriarch **Abraham gave** the tenth of the spoils.

You need to read verses  Gen.14:13,14,15, & 16 and tell me who ‘he’ is referring to? And remember there were no chapter and verse breaks in the original text..

Shalom

Jason SpiritualBabies I am reading the text from the hebrew.. word by word.. Abram is the target of the direction.. perhaps there are translational or doctrinal issues with some areas of the NT? or perhaps with some translations..

.. but it seems clear, at least in the original hebrew.. the foundation of all scripture.. the beginning of all bibles.. on which our whole walk relies…..

He (MCZDK) was ‘doing’ and him (Abram) was not.

But.. we are all free to interpret as we see fit..

The brass tacks are that

Ge 14:16 And he (Abram/Abraham not Melchizedek) brought back all the goods,
Ge 14:20 … And he (Abram/Abraham not Melchizedek) gave him (Melchizedek) tithes of all

This is the whole verse and the tho’t (thought) transfer

Ge 14:20 (from Melchizedek v:18-19) And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered (the transfer of tho’t) **thine** (Abraham’s) enemies into (the transfer of tho’t) **thy** (Abraham’s) hand. And he (Abraham) gave him (Melchizedek) tithes of all.

Abram/Abraham ‘he’ brought back all the goods not Melchizedek

So if Melchizedek paid a tenth of all – all of what?

To suppose that Melchizedek paid the tenth to Abraham is to say that ‘all the goods’ were some how either retrieved by, transferred to or given to Melchizedek so that he would have ‘a tenth’ of something to give (either supposition is not supported by the text)

If this was so Melchizedek then kept the 90% and paid the tenth; of Abraham’s retrieved/stolen goods? (again an inverted reversal supposition not supported by the text)

So my friend;

Ge 14:16 And he (Abram/Abraham not Melchizedek) brought back all the goods,
Ge 14:20 … And he (Abram/Abraham not Melchizedek) gave him (Melchizedek) tithes of all
Supported by
Heb 7:4 Now consider how great this man (Melchizedek :1) was, unto whom even the patriarch **Abraham gave** the tenth of the spoils.

Is true and correct

Heb 7:7 And without all contradiction the less (Abraham) is blessed of the better (Melchizedek)

Melchizedek did the Blessing not Abraham; Abraham did the Tithing not Melchizedek

Shalom

One thought on “On-the-Melchizedek-Priesthood

  1. Yeh, it seems pretty ovbious that Melchizadek blessed Abraham, and Abraham gave Him the tenth of the goods that he had captured. And that Melchizadek also was a Priest of the most High God Yahweh, Ovbiously Melchizadek was in good stead with both Yahweh and also Abraham and Melchizadek said blessings be upon them both. Yahweh had chosen to bless Abraham,, by reason of Abrahams faith, and Melchizadek carried out Yahwehs will.

The fact Abraham wuz unimpressed by the Dagon Idol that reportedly appears that it might have been the family idol of his (earthly) father Terrah, who was the Captain of the warlike host of all those who displeased Yahweh seems to somehow fit to this? ANd the fact that Abraham captured the goods does not necessairly mean those goods were plundered or stolen, and in fact it seems patently opposite of what was true. If you steal something from me, and then if I go and grab it back to myself, I am not stealing from you, and so Abraham when He grabed Lot and all the plunder back after winning the war, he was merely returning to the rightfull owners that which had been stolen or plundered before.
The only reason Abraham seems to have even biothered to goto war seems like it was because Lot his neohew had been captured and he went to rescure lot, not to steal or plunder anything for himself. He even told the Sodom king that he wanted nothing of the spoils himself.

And the fact that Melchizadek was given ten persent fits to the tithe principle too, where the tenth part is always the part that is to be set aside for God, and the Priests of God. And even the Priests of God were to tith ten perscent of the ten percent tithe they recieved if I remember the law correctly ? So then actually in this particulatr case Yahweh recieved the 1% that He dmands for Himself, as Melchizadek being righteous certainally would have followed the law, and then gave ten percent of the ten percent Abraham gave Him, on to Yahweh the most High God.
